Heating and Cooling Repair in Coker

Coker is country. West of Northport, the houses sit on bigger lots with pasture, pines and long gravel drives, and the heating and air systems out here have a different life than the ones in town. Many homes run on a heat pump, some still heat with a propane or electric furnace, and a fair number of manufactured homes carry a package unit or a split heat pump tied into ducts under the floor.

We drive out to Coker for AC, heat pump and furnace repairs on homes and small buildings. The distance does not change how we work. We diagnose the system, show you what failed, and quote the repair before ordering anything, the same as we would for a house two blocks from the river. If you are not sure whether your road is inside our range, send the form anyway; Coker and the farm roads around it are on our regular route.

Older houses and the ducts under them

A lot of homes around Coker were built before anyone planned for central air, and the ductwork was added later through a crawlspace or attic. Over the years those ducts get stepped on, chewed by critters, knocked loose, or crushed under insulation. When a run comes apart under the floor, the cold air you are paying for goes straight into the crawlspace, and the bedroom on that end never cools down. On manufactured homes, the belly duct can tear or separate at the crossover, with the same result.

Before we blame the equipment for a room that will not cool, we check the airflow at the registers and look at the ducts we can get to. Sometimes the condenser is fine and the real problem is a sagging flex run or a crushed return. Fixing that costs far less than a new unit and makes the whole house feel better.

Humidity, drains and a damp crawlspace

The Black Warrior and Lake Tuscaloosa keep this whole end of the county humid, and a house on a crawlspace in the woods feels it more than most. An air conditioner here pulls a lot of water out of the air, and that water has to go somewhere. When the condensate line clogs with algae, the float switch shuts the system down or the pan overflows. When the crawlspace stays damp, ducts sweat, insulation gets heavy and mold starts growing on the outside of the ductwork.

We clear and treat drain lines, check that the pan and float switch are doing their jobs, and look at whether the system is short-cycling and leaving moisture behind. A house that is cold but clammy is a sign the unit is not running long enough to dry the air.

What we fix in and around Coker

Heat pumps are the biggest share of the work. We see failed capacitors and contactors, outdoor fan motors that quit, reversing valves stuck in one mode, defrost boards that leave the coil iced over on cold mornings, and slow leaks that drain the charge over a season. When the heat pump falls behind on a cold night and the house leans on its electric backup, the power bill shows it fast. That is where the backup heat and furnace work we do comes in, whether it is heat strips in an air handler or a propane furnace that will not light.

We also handle no-cool calls on straight AC systems, thermostat problems, package units on manufactured homes, and drain issues. We repair heating and air across Tuscaloosa County: Tuscaloosa, Northport, Cottondale, Coker, Brookwood, Vance, Duncanville, Fosters, Coaling, Moundville, Holt, Lake View and Samantha. If you have people closer to town, the same crew covers the houses on our Northport page and the communities in between.

Much of the land around Coker sits outside city limits, so for anything that needs a permit on a full system change, Tuscaloosa County is usually the office involved. We can tell you what applies before any work begins.

Services we bring out here

Getting a Coker repair started

Fill out the form with what the system is doing, whether it is a heat pump, furnace, or package unit, and about how old it is. Directions or a landmark help on the rural roads. Every repair is quoted in writing after the diagnosis and before any part is ordered, and if a repair costs close to what a new system would, we say so. On scheduling, we work Monday through Saturday, 7am to 6pm, and answer every message the same day.
